Happy Spring! Are you ready for a knitalong? I am!

Join the Don’t Be Chicken! Knitalong

We’ll be knitting adorable Easter Egg Cozies in two fun patterns, Candy Stripe Eggs (shown above) and Egging Around. These little projects are perfect for brightening up your Easter decor or gifting to friends and family.

Why join a knitalong? Support and inspiration!

One of the best things about KALs is the inspiration you can get from seeing others’ unique interpretations of the design, so don’t be shy about sharing your progress and finished projects on social media or in the dedicated Ravelry thread. And if you have any questions about the pattern or materials, don’t hesitate to post a question in the Ravelry thread or reach out to me directly at info_at_theknittingtutor.net.

And companionship!

The Don’t Be Chicken! Knitalong starts March 18 and ends on Easter Monday, April 10. To kick it off, I’ll be hosting a Zoom Meetup! I hope you’ll be able to join me on March 18 at 12 noon EST. I’ll send out a link to participants about a week before, as well as day-of.

I am so excited to connect with you and see what yarns you are using to knit your eggs. And this is a great chance to ask any questions you may have about the patterns.

Egging Around

Let’s talk about the patterns we’ll be knitting!

Join our KAL and knit two fun patterns: Egging Around (shown above) and Candy Stripe Eggs. Both patterns are designed to fit a 3.5″ plastic Easter egg and call for two colors of fingering weight yarn. While Egging Around features a stranded colorwork design, Candy Stripe Egg is designed with beginner knitters in mind and uses simple stripes as a design motif. I designed Candy Stripe Eggs to be more inclusive, since not all knitters feel comfortable with stranded knitting. So whether you’re a beginner or an experienced knitter, there’s a pattern for you in this KAL!

You can purchase the Don’t Be Chicken! KAL ebook on Ravelry and Payhip.

Gathering materials

By far the easiest way to get your materials together for the knitalong is to grab a kit from . She has put together some for the Candy Stripe Egg which include mini skeins in a variety of colors that we selected together, four plastic eggs and the most adorable Sheldon stitch marker.

If four eggs seems like a big commitment, Marian also has with mini skeins in three colors and two plastic eggs. is my favorite – I love a green and purple combo!

If you are overrun with mini skeins or scraps already, I get it! Dig through your yarn leftovers and join us! You can find the 3.5″ plastic eggs on .

Choosing Stripe Colors For Your Eggs

One of the best parts about knitting striped projects is playing around with the colors! I knit my Candy Stripe Egg samples using different hues of the same color, and I love the effect. (It sort of reminds me of Fruit Stripe Gum?) The next “clutch of eggs” will be complementary color stripes, I think. I got so excited about choosing colors,
